About One Percent
One Percent Baseball was founded in 2019 with a mission to change the way youth baseball players are developed. Since then, we have grown into a company with reaches all over South Texas working with baseball players of all ages.
During the early years of One Percent, the South Texas Tribe emerged with its first team under the one percent baseball program. There are now multiple ages groups of teams and growing! One percent baseball and The South Texas Tribe looks to develop skills that scale.
The mission behind One Percent Baseball is to teach the youth what it takes to be a winner. True success happens over a long span of time. Taking daily action, commitment to the end goal, having a whatever it takes mindset to become the individual one aspires to be.
One Percent lives by the mantra that if you get 1% better every day for a year you will be a 365% better baseball player at this time next year. Today we want to instill a mindset of consistency and hard work over a long period of time will get you to where you want to be.
Garrett Acker
Garrett Acker is the founder of One Percent Baseball and owner of the South Texas Tribe. Garret is a south Texas native,
born and raised in San Antonio. Baseball has always been a big part of his life since a young age. Playing little league
at McAllister Park and playing for various select teams growing up. Garrett attended Claudia Taylor Johnson High School
and played as an outfielder and a left-handed pitcher.
Garrett Acker is the founder of One Percent Baseball and owner of the South Texas Tribe. Garret is a south Texas native, born and raised in San Antonio. Baseball has always been a big part of his life since a young age. Playing little league at McAllister Park and playing for various select teams growing up. Garrett attended Claudia Taylor Johnson High School and played as an outfielder and a left-handed pitcher.
Garrett had the opportunity to pitch in college at the University of Incarnate Word right out of high school. After a full season transferred to east Texas where he spent a year studying and playing at Northeast Texas Community College under the coaching of Bo Martino and Austin Knight who are both coaching professional baseball today.
After undergoing tommy john surgery, Garrett took a year off to recover and prepare for his next opportunity to play where he walked on at UTSA and ultimately finished his playing career. Immediately following the end of his playing time Garrett began coaching at UTSA under Jason Marshal and staff. Garrett continued coaching at UTSA for another two years under Patrick Hallmark and staff. During this time Garrett had begun coaching the South Texas Tribe and training youth athletes. Garrett saw his opportunity to be able to impact the youth of the San Antonio area and began working in the private sector full time. Since Garrett has built a full client base and multiple teams as well as hiring Coach Sean full time.
Sean Arnold
Born and raised in Bryan, Texas, Sean has always had a passion for baseball and player development. He competed on
some of the nation's top select teams growing up and graduated from Rudder High School in 2016 where he was a 3-time
All-District player, 2-time All-State player, and 2-time District Defensive Player of the Year.
After graduating High School Sean accepted a baseball scholarship to The University of the Incarnate Word. Although
recruited as a catcher, Sean quickly found value in other positions and accumulated innings at 5 different positions
throughout his college career. In the spring of 2019 Sean was in the midst of a breakout year in which he ended up being named first team All-Conference as well as being named to the Southland Conference All-Defensive team after hitting .330.
At the end of the 2019 season, he tore his labrum. After recovering from the torn labrum Sean competed with the Brazos Valley Bombers during the shortened 2020 season; he also graduated from Incarnate Word with his bachelors in Sport Management. With one year of eligibility left, Sean transferred to UTSA while continuing work on his master's degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sport Pedagogy.
